Making Money From Your Spare Room

Do you have a spare room in your home that is filled with junk? Could this room be used to make money by renting to short-term tenants? Think about it. Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could get extra income without having to do too much work? Well now you can – by renting out your room. There are students and travellers who are always looking for short term accommodation and your room could be the perfect space.

As a short term let, you would need to be able to provide a nice space. The better equipment the room has, the more money you could earn. For maximum profits the room you offer should contain:

A comfortable bed or a sofa bed may be better for better use of the space

    * Own cooking facilities
    * An en suite bathroom

If you decide to provide cooking facilities for your spare room, you can provide the very basics, such as a microwave oven and a kettle. This will be enough for tenants like travellers who will be out all day and will tend to be happy to go out and grab a cheap evening meal while sight seeing.

It isn’t completely necessary to have an en suite bathroom. Some tenants are quite happy to share use of the family bathroom. This may mean that you will have to accept less rent. However less rent is better than no rent and less rent is better than having a junk room making no rent.

So this is a little food for thought. Your spare room could help pay off your mortgage or go towards other home improvements. Go have a look at your spare room right now and think of all the possibilities.
