How to Overcome Designer Fear and Solve Problems With Design Solution Packages

Over my 20 plus years of interior design practice, I often observe the uneasiness and even apprehension that new and potential clients exhibit in the first encounter. The TV stereotypes of daffy, ditsy, colorfully attired interior designers and decorators make me uncomfortable too. Then there are the slick, almost magical HGTV episodes in which designers create miracles in 30 minutes for virtually pennies.

Many times this initial encounter is a phone call after searching Google and visiting appealing websites. Case in point, mid twenties bachelor purchases a loft in trendy downtown Portland, Oregon and needs design services.  He also requires a home office area. How does a designer push through the make believe reality of TV solutions, make a connection and use the amazing knowledge and years of practice that trained, experienced interior designers can contribute to deliver real solutions and opportunities.

Here is a concept to bridge the fear of the unknown, aka, designer dread. Design Solution Packages. The packages outline a task like a color consultation with a fixed fee cost solution.

These Design Solution Packages make a client connection and build a base of potential, new clients.  Having a beginning and end makes these potential clients comfortable. They no longer wonder how much design services might cost them. Plus the service for them is accomplished and satisfied client.

So in this cautious economy, Design Solution Packages offer specific remedies for clients new and continuing. There are a myriad ways to structure them as suited to the client and the problem they have.  They are task specific.  This approach not only helps solve a problem for a client but is a tool that helps designers too.
